MoMa presents: Why only now?!
Another equality panel? – Does anything actually change because of these panels?
Efforts to promote equality and representation in the music, media, and cultural sectors have been ongoing for a long time. Challenges are acknowledged, panels are organized, and goals are even set, but yet the same issues resurface year after year. So, is anything actually changing?
What happens when a group of pioneers — the only professionals in the room — are given the space to discuss and connect with one another, while the audience gets to be a fly on the wall? We’re going to find out!
We do not promise ready-made solutions to a matter that is never truly finished, but we do promise an honest dialogue and ideas for a better, more functional tomorrow. We share emotions and stories from the past, yet keep our sights firmly set on the future.
This discussion is neither a decision nor an answer to a complex issue, but rather an invitation to join the conversation. Although the world and its possibilities do not appear the same to all of us—and our starting points differ greatly—we, as individuals and communities, have the opportunity to create the future we desire, both alone and together. The work is unfinished and likely always will be, but fortunately, we do not have to wait for change to happen.
Why only now?!
Because better late than never.
