Music x Media

The Music x Media pre-workshop was organized on Finnish Music Day on December 8th.

A diverse group of music, media and event professionals, as well as representatives of stakeholder groups, gathered in the terrace foyer of Musiikkitalo.

The aim of the morning was to hear from professionals working in different roles and to consider together what kind of themes and goals Music x Media should serve in the future and how the event could better support the development of the industry. We worked for a few hours in small groups and finally went through the observations that emerged together.

It was notable that Music x Media's content was wished to have more of a future horizon, how the industry is renewing itself and in which direction we are heading. Technology, artificial intelligence, internationality and the changing ways young people consume and discover music led to thinking about, among other things, how we could listen to young people even more closely. Many said that they also longed for a bolder discussion about difficult topics, polarization, structural inequality and the economic reality in which industry professionals are trying to survive. The idea that became important was, that Music x Media should not be a behind-the-scenes smoothing, but a place where we honestly tell where we are going and what we need to do together.

Internationalization is, perhaps surprisingly, causing conflicting thoughts in the industry. It is hoped that the event will only deal with domestic issues, but on the other hand, it is felt that development cannot occur without international models, lessons and ideas. On behalf of Music x Media, we feel it is necessary to examine and increase awareness of how internationalization benefits different actors – why it is important and whether everyone should be interested in the opportunities it brings.

The price of the tickets, accessibility of the event and insider-likeness nature of Music x Media also emerged as concrete development targets. Similarly, the need for increased diversity and the presentation of different music genres sparked discussion.

We would like to thank everyone for their valuable feedback and help in developing Music x Media. We hope that you, the industry professionals, will continue to connect with us at a low threshold. Let's hold on to the enormous potential that Music x Media represents at its best. It is clear that the future is built together, not separately.

If you have feedback, development suggestions or views, please feel free to contact us by email or phone at any time. We are also actively developing the content of the talk show and the processes of the Industry Awards gala.
