Music x Media expands collaboration in the music and creative industries this year with exciting new partnerships. As part of Music x Media, we will host the SHINE! pitching and networking event, and we are also opening up collaboration with the Hyvin Sanottu discussion festival.

At the SHINE! event, music industry companies have a unique opportunity to present their projects to international experts and players in the creative industry. The connection between SHINE! and Music x Media benefits participants from both events and expands their networks.

The collaboration with Hyvin Sanottu broadens the topics of discussion within both the Hyvin Sanottu event and Music x Media. We will address a theme that divides into perspectives on music and the music business, making it natural to execute in both events.

The Freedom and Responsibility of Art

What values does commercial music convey?

In collaboration with the Hyvin Sanottu discussion festival and Music x Media.

Music has always played a significant role in shaping the worldview and value system of young people. Through music, feelings and images are conveyed. The general value environment seems to be hardening, and music is a part of this change. How specifically does commercial music affect the attitudes and values of young people? Can anything be said in the name of art? Does music have responsibilities in addition to freedom regarding the development of social values and attitudes? What do music creators, performers, and industry professionals think about this?

This discussion will take place in two parts in collaboration with the Hyvin Sanottu discussion festival. The first part will be held at the Sibelius Hall in Lahti, during the Hyvin Sanottu event on September 27, 2024, from 3:15 PM to 4:45 PM.

Responsibility in the Experience Economy

Sustainable development and ethical practices

Creative Finland

The experience economy, which includes tourism, entertainment, culture, and sports, has become a significant area of the economy globally. The sector offers numerous opportunities for economic growth and employment, and it positively impacts people’s daily lives and work (e.g., gamification, industrial metaverse). Its effects on the environment and society can also be significant and sometimes negative. For this reason, responsibility has become a key theme in creating a more sustainable and ethical experience economy.

Sustainability in the experience economy is a multifaceted concept that requires consideration of environmental, economic, and social issues. Adopting sustainable and ethical practices also creates new opportunities for innovation and growth.

The discussion will include Heini Kaihu, the sustainability director at Rovio, and Teemu Ahmaniemi, head of the research team at VTT, who will discuss how responsibility is taken into account in their work, such as in the interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaboration project Sonic Move. The discussion will be moderated by Veikko Ikonen from the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.

It is essential to elevate the role of the creative economy in business growth and internationalization based on R&D work. At the end of the discussion, Kenneth Nyholm, Ecosystem Manager, will present information about Business Finland’s funding services.

This discussion is conducted in collaboration with Creative Finland. The panel is free to attend. You can register for it using this form. You will receive instructions on how to follow the discussion before the event.
