Program for the Fresh! by Music x Media event, scheduled for October 5, 2024, at Tampere Hall and aimed at young people aged 16-29 interested in the music industry, has been revealed!

The talk program, filling Tampere Hall’s Maestro in October, will feature diverse discussions about the music industry. The talk program includes tips on building a career as a music creator, an introduction to the various roles and employment opportunities in the music industry, and the inspirational story of singer-songwriter Hassan Maikal and his A&R/Manager Setumo Bodibe. The program also includes a session from Teosto and Gramex!

Workshops enabled by Helsinki Youth Services will cover DJ equipment, recording studios, beat making, songwriting, and podcast conceptualization and recording. Guidance in the workshops is available in both Finnish and English. The event’s talk content is in Finnish.

How to Create a Career as an Artist or Music Creator?

Dreaming of a career as an artist or music creator but don’t know where to start? Join this inspiring discussion to get great tips for starting your career. Topics include where to begin as an artist or music creator, how to develop your musical style and brand, using social media to advance your career, and the challenges and successes you may encounter on your journey.

Participants:

  • SpotlightKiddo: Guitarist known for playing in Abreu and Isac Elliot’s bands, with over 135,000 TikTok followers worldwide.
  • Berta: Singer-songwriter who started making TikTok videos over four years ago, now signed with Warner Music Finland and Mökkitie Records, and winner of the Music Influencer of the Year award at the Tubecon Awards. She has over 175,000 TikTok followers.
  • Jonna Heikkinen “Joanna”: Finnish songwriter (Elements Music), singer, and artist making strides in international markets. She has written songs for Marcus & Martinus, CLMD, and Marnik and attended a songwriting camp organized by Robin Schulz’s management in Germany. She has over 10 million streams on Spotify.
  • Christina Boman: Journalist and music creator who has worked for Trendi, Anna, and Demi. Christina will moderate the discussion and provide tips on promoting your music to media outlets.

 

Together in the Industry: The Role and Importance of a Manager in an Artist’s Career

A manager is often the most important support for an artist. Singer-songwriter Hassan Maikal and his A&R/Manager Setumo Bodibe share their story of nearly a decade of collaboration. Their friendship and brotherhood have remained strong as they have grown into professionals, supported each other’s careers at critical junctures, and created something special in the music industry.

How do you find someone willing to walk the journey with you and put everything on the line? Where can you meet such people?

In this discussion, Hassan and Setumo openly and honestly talk about the opportunities and harsh realities of the music world, loneliness and community. They will share how their team has evolved over the years and what they hope to achieve together.

Come explore the diverse opportunities and players in the music industry! This discussion will illustrate who works in the industry, what kinds of entities exist, and how many different people and entities an artist might employ throughout their career. What is A&R? Which entities help with international careers? Who are needed for live productions and other events?

Whether you’re an artist or interested in various employment opportunities in the music industry, this session is for you! After the session, speakers will be available at the event to answer questions.

Songs & Beats

Does hearing beats make you go crazy (in a positive way)? We got a workshop for you! In Songs & Beats workshop you get to make beats on your own and get to know professional recording studios, with the guidance of professionals.
During the day there will also be co-writing sessions, in which you can create and record a song with a team.

Pop-up studios for the event are brought by Emma School-Music Production in collaboration with the Emma Gala and the cities of Helsinki & Espoo. Equipment for the workshop is provided by Helsinki Unity Music.

DJ All Levels

Have you dreamt about being a DJ? DJ All Levels workshop is designed for everyone, from first-timers to DJ-veterans. Instructors of the workshop will assist everyone from the beginning if needed, and offer tips and tricks about mix & beatmatch techniques, song selection, transitions, effects and tricks. 

The workshop is enabled by DJ Academy Helsinki, Youth Services, Helsinki.

Make Your Own Podcast!

What would your own podcast sound like? Find it out in this workshop managed by professionals of Signaalimedia. In Make your own podcast –workshop you will familiarize yourself about what you should consider before and after planning and recording your own podcast. Workshop culminates in a possibility to record your own podcast!
