Wilhelm Kvist has more than 15 years of experience as music critic. He began his tenure as Editor of Music and full-time staff journalist at the main Swedish-language daily newspaper in Finland, Hufvudstadsbladet, in 2010. In 2020, he was awarded the foremost prize for Swedish-speaking journalists in Finland, the Topelius Prize, following his article series on the gender breakdown in concert programmes presented by symphony orchestras in the Helsinki region, igniting a fiery debate with repercussions still perceptible. A musician and music theorist by training, he is currently pursuing a PhD at University of Helsinki focusing on the gender politics of symphony orchestras. His research has been supported by grants awarded by the Swedish Cultural Foundation and Victoriastiftelsen foundation.
